The Court for the Suppression of Economic Crimes and Terrorism (CRIET) handed down, yesterday Thursday, November 16, 2023, a sentence of 15 years in prison against a man convicted of fraud by organized gangs. CRIET found him guilty of defrauding two victims of several million CFA francs with artifices. The total defrauded amount would have exceeded ten million CFA francs. The convict, a man in his forties, had been in custody since August 9, 2023.

The total amount of damages amounts to 13 million CFA francs, including 11 million for the first victim and 2 million for the second. The defendant allegedly pressured the young woman to quickly send the funds she claimed to a phone number. The victim, however, had contacted the Central Office for Cybercrime Suppression (OCRC), which traced the phone number.
