Doctors stuck inside Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City say they cannot reach the wounded outside due to intense fighting in the area.
The information was published by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society on Thursday (16).
From inside the hospital, ambulance crews can hear explosions and gunshots, according to the group providing humanitarian and medical assistance to Gaza.
“There are several martyrs and wounded in the hospital courtyard, about 30 meters away, which our teams cannot reach,” the Palestinian Red Crescent said.
Al-Ahli is the only hospital in northern Gaza that is operational and capable of admitting patients, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said on Wednesday (15).
An Anglo-Palestinian surgeon also declared on Thursday (16) that it was no longer possible to carry out surgical operations there.
“The hospital is now effectively a first aid station,” Dr. Ghassan Abu-Sittah said in a statement, adding that hundreds of people are injured and unable to access surgery. “They are leaving because of the injuries,” Abu-Sittah concluded.
