Bahia concedes a draw to Athletico-PR and remains stuck in Z4 of the Brazilian Championship

Bahia failed to maintain its advantage on the scoreboard and secure the three points this Sunday against Athletico-PR. After opening the score, they conceded a draw in the 41st minute of the second half, when Canobbio made it 1-1 at the Arena Fonte Nova, on matchday 34 of the Brazilian Championship.

The result does not please either team. As the Bahians continue to be threatened with relegation, Paraná fans remain distant from the G-6.

Bahia is the first team outside the relegation zone, with 38 points, one more than Cruzeiro, which opens the relegation zone, with 37, and has one game less. Athletico-PR is seventh, with 51, six behind Flamengo, who closes the G-6, with 57, and also has one game less.

Needing to score to stay clear of the relegation zone, Bahia won against Athletico at home. Thanks to quick transitions, the team had control of the game and accumulated chances, alternating on the right side, with Gilberto and Everaldo, or on the left, with Bienne and Luciano Juba.

Uncreative, the Paraná team suffered without a coordinator when in possession of the ball and had little recourse to counter-attacks.

Seeing his opponent a little apathetic, Bahia launched headlong into the final straight. Cauly received a shot from Bienne and stopped on goalkeeper Bento. Before, the midfielder saw his shot blocked at the right time by the opposing defense and, as a result, Gilberto saw his shot deflected.

Despite the good volume of play, the Bahian team failed by finishing on goal, making bad decisions and failing to translate shots into goals. The second half was more lively. After a free kick taken into the area, Thaciano took the free kick in the center of the area and Bento made a good save. With the entry of Vitor Bueno, Athletico began to be sharper.

Canobbio received it quickly, crossed and Marcos Felipe kept the score at zero. The home team remained superior on the field. With control of the game, the team continued to waste opportunity after opportunity. After attacking so much, Gilberto was brought down in the box by Esquível and the penalty was awarded. Everaldo took responsibility, hit hard and put Bahia at the top of the standings, with 27.

The goal left the duel here and there. Surgical, Athletico equalized at 41. After a corner, Canobbio tested firmly to leave everything equal. The final stretch was exciting. While both teams managed to achieve victory, the goalkeepers shone and maintained the tie until the final whistle. The Brazilian Championship now stops due to the FIFA date and does not return until the 25th november.

For the 35th day, Bahia will visit the Corinthians, at 7:30 p.m., at the Neo Química Arena, in São Paulo. The same day and at the same time, Athletico-PR welcomes Vasco, at the Ligga Arena, in Curitiba.
