Body found in SC is that of missing Austrian tourist, police say

Delegate Wanderley Redondo, of the Santa Catarina Civil Police, confirmed to CNNthis Wednesday (1st), that the body found last Sunday (29), in Florianópolis, is that of the Austrian tourist Michael Lichtenegger, missing.

Redondo explained that the civil police forensic team compared Lichtenegger’s dental arch with that of the found body and confirmed that the corpse was his.

Lichtenegger, originally from the city of Vienna, was last seen on October 19 while climbing the rocks of Costão da Joaquina, in Florianópolis. He had been included on the civil police list of missing persons.

According to the firefighters, the tourist would have started a route in the forest, leaving Joaquina beach and trying to get to Praia Mole or Praia da Galheta, a route that could vary between three and six kilometers. He was last seen walking on a rock face.

Firefighters also say the course is extremely difficult and requires a lot of caution because it has slippery and tilted rocks along its entire length.
