Brazil’s ambassador to Argentina, Julio Bitelli, was on the list of candidates to represent the Brazilian government during the inauguration of Javier Milei at the Casa Rosada on July 10, according to government sources.
It would be the third option after those already suggested: that of Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin, as revealed CNN this Monday, and that of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira.
This would be the option that would demonstrate to the new Argentine government the maximum discomfort with the elected president, since it would signal that Brazil would not move anyone from Brasilia to honor the inauguration. He would simply send his representative to Buenos Aires.
However, there is no urgency to make a decision. The time until possession will be used to wait for signals from Milei and his team.
The first were considered very bad: the invitation to Bolsonaro to attend his inauguration and the announcement that the first country visited will be the United States, and not Brazil, thus breaking a tradition between the two countries.
