Cases of intentional bodily injury suffered by women increased by 26.2%

The number of female victims of intentional bodily injury who reported the crime to the police in the state of São Paulo increased by 26.2%, comparing the months of September 2022 and 2023.

This is shown by the statistics on violence against women made available by the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP).

According to the ministry, in September last year, 4,064 cases of physical attacks against women were recorded throughout São Paulo, while this year there were 5,130 episodes in which women were victims of this crime.

In the capital of São Paulo, 1,299 such incidents were recorded in 2022, compared to 1,877 cases in 2023. In the São Paulo macro-region (made up of 38 municipalities in the metropolitan region), there were 699 cases in September last year, while in the same period this year there were 747.

Within the state, there were 2,066 incidents of intentional bodily injury against women in September last year and 2,506 this year.

There has also been an increase in the number of abuses reported by women. In 2022, there were 42 cases in the month of September alone, while during the same period in 2023 there were 65, an increase of 54.7%.

Presenter Ana Hickmann filed a police complaint, accusing her husband, Alexandre Côrrea, of assault on Saturday afternoon (11), at the family home in Itu, in the interior of São Paulo.

To the police, she reported that she was talking to her 10-year-old son in the kitchen when Alexander heard, did not like the content of the conversation and started an argument with the presenter. The child, frightened, allegedly ran out of the room.

According to the police report, Alexandre pushed his wife against the wall and threatened to headbutt her.
