International Emmy 2023: discover the main winners of the award


This happened on Monday evening (20) on 51st International Emmys. The award, considered the most important in television, focuses on productions made outside the United States, as the Emmy Awards generally recognize what is made in the United States.

In this edition, seven Brazilian productions competed for the prize, including “Pantanal” and “Cara e Coragem”, the TV Globo soap operas.

  • Best actress: Karla Souza for “Mergulho”

The Prime Video film tells the story of Mariel, a professional diver who has her last chance at the Olympics. After a twist and a truth is revealed, the swimmer begins to wonder if winning is really her biggest dream.

  • Best Actor: Martin Freeman for “The Responder”

Martin Freeman, known for his work in “The Hobbit” and “Sherlock,” won the best actor statuette for the BBC detective series “The Responder.”

  • Best reality TV show: “A Ponte – The Bridge Brasil”

The Brazilian reality TV show won the award in the category in which it competed against “Hôtel du Temps: Dalida,” from France; “Love by AI”, from Japan; and the 13th season of “The Great British Bake Off” in the United Kingdom.

  • Best sports documentary: “Harley & Katya”

The documentary about Australian skater Harley Windsor and his Russian partner Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya directed by Stranger Than Fiction Films won the statuette for best sports documentary at the ceremony.

  • The best mini-series was “Ordinary People”

The French mini-series won the category against “Linchamentos”, a Brazilian mini-series produced by Record TV, on lynchings in Brazil. In “Good Ordinary People”, the world is a matriarchy where women symbolize power. The series focuses on Romain, an 18-year-old student who wants to become a porn actor.

  • Best animation for children: “The Smeds and the Smoos”

The series about “O Menino Maluquinho”, competing for the prize in Brazil, lost to the British animation “The Smeds and the Smoos”, which won the International Emmy in this category.

  • Best Children’s Program: Live Action awarded to “Heartbreak High: Where Everything Happens”

The Netflix series won the children’s series category in live-action version.
