Mano Menezes justifies a long contract on his return to Corinthians

This season, coach Mano Menezes begins his third term as Corinthians commander. This Monday (20), in an interview with the Arena SBT program, the coach explained the conditions that made him return to the São Paulo club, although he had only planned to return to a club for 2024 .

Mano Menezes took over Corinthians amid a turbulent period of the season, battling the relegation zone and seeking a place in the Copa Sudamericana final. The coach justified accepting the proposal in black and white despite the complicated phase.

“We only accept a position at a time like this if we truly believe we have the ability to reorganize the things we deem important. The Corinthians understood that they had to make the change, I think it was a dangerous moment to accept, but the familiarity with the house, the trust and respect we have, made me believe that we could have a best end of the year,” opened the coach.

“I know the fans will not be satisfied with Corinthians leaving the last places and being in a middle position, that was not the aim of the season. But given the circumstances, the moment we have gone through, I think we are starting to deliver something more reliable, although we have not left the minimum digital condition, we are already producing something capable of giving more confidence to everybody. , being in the middle of the table at the end of the last round,” he added.

During his third stint at Corinthians, Mano Menezes demanded a larger contract, valid for two and a half seasons. Also in the interview, the coach reminded Timão of his second job to justify the request for a longer contract duration.

“I was planning to return to work next year, as I told some clubs, but Corinthians are special in my life. I thought it was important to arrive at a difficult time to begin a recovery, now is the time to do it, I signed a contract for a longer period, it was one of the conditions for taking on the position . Last time I accepted this position for only one year, before the elections, and the new leaders opted for the return of Tite, which I think is correct, he is one of the names that comes up always on the minds of the people of Corinthians. What gets me here is everything Corinthians means to me and the respect Corinthians have for me,” he concluded.
