Mirjana Spoljaric, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), met with Ismail Haniyeh, political leader of Hamas, in Qatar on Monday (20), according to a statement from the non-profit organization.
The statement emphasizes that the ICRC is not involved in any negotiations aimed at freeing the Gaza hostages, but is “ready to facilitate any future release on which the parties to the conflict agree” – which it has already done twice.
“The ICRC insists that our teams be allowed to visit the hostages to check their health and deliver medicine, and so that the hostages can communicate with their families,” the statement said.
He added: “The ICRC cannot force entry into the place where the hostages are being held, nor do we know their location. »
