Two military policemen were shot dead in the state of Rio de Janeiro on Thursday evening (26). One of the cases occurred in the municipality of São Gonçalo, involving an off-duty police officer, while the second incident resulted from an attempted robbery in the Cidade Nova neighborhood of the capital Rio de Janeiro.
José Wilton Chaves dos Santos, 40, was enjoying his break in an establishment in the Maria Paula neighborhood, São Gonçalo, when he was surprised by gunshots that hit him in the head. The 7th Military Police Battalion (São Gonçalo) was called to the scene and, upon arrival, confirmed that the victim was a police officer. The agent was transported to the Alberto Torres Public Hospital and his condition is still unknown.
In the central region of Rio de Janeiro, police officer Rodrigo de Oliveira Gomes David was surprised by an attempted robbery which left him injured in the abdomen. People nearby helped the officer and took him to the Central Military Police Hospital.
After entering the health facility, the shock police battalion (BPChq) was called to the scene. The officer is in stable condition after undergoing surgery.
The investigation into the incidents continues.
