The SPVM will investigate the fire that broke out on Friday in Old Montreal

The investigation into the fire that broke out Friday evening in a vacant building in Old Montreal has been transferred to the Montreal Police Service (SPVM), authorities said Saturday morning.

Nearly 150 firefighters battled the fire starting at 8 p.m. Friday evening at 639 rue Notre-Dame Ouest, opposite rue Saint-Henri, in Old Montreal.

The fire was under control Saturday morning, but firefighters continued to pour into the building, SPVM spokeswoman Jeanne Drouin said.

Mme Drouin specified that the cause of the fire is still unknown, and that investigators from the Fire Unit went to the scene on Saturday morning to find out the circumstances of this event.

The building where the fire occurred had no occupants and no one was injured.
