US Secretary of State meets with Jordanian Prime Minister


US Secretary of State Antony Blinken meets this Saturday (4) with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Amman, the capital of Jordan.

Neither spoke during a brief photo opportunity at the start of the meeting.

Qatar has played a key negotiator role in talks with Hamas in the context of the conflict in Israel and Gaza.

The United States thanked the Gulf country for its help in freeing four hostages held by the radical Islamist group, as well as for the eventual opening of the Rafah gate between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry announced on Friday that Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi will bring together his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Qatar, as well as the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Liberation Organization of Palestine, who will then find themselves in a group with Blinken.

The Foreign Office said the meeting would focus on ending the war and “the humanitarian catastrophe it has caused”.
