Vojvoda recognizes Fortaleza’s bad phase: “It’s a complicated moment”

Coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda took the reins of Fortaleza in May 2021, has almost 200 games in charge of the team and is currently experiencing the Ceará club’s biggest negative streak. Even when they were in the Brasileirão relegation zone last year, Leão went eight games without winning – six defeats and two draws in the period.

This Saturday evening (18), thanks to a goal from Bruno Rodrigues, Cruzeiro beat Fortaleza at the Arena Castelão, during the 30th day of the Brazilian Championship.

“It’s a complicated time. I think today the team deserved a little more. But the reality is that we didn’t get the three points,” Vojvoda said.

“Fortaleza had four or five chances, but we were not effective. Let’s continue, believe, get what we deserve. These are difficult times and we need everyone’s support, but we know we will also receive criticism.”

At the end of the match, the 30,000 fans present in Castelão booed and called the team “shameless”. Fortaleza stopped at 43 points, in 12th place in the Brasileirão, still with a game in hand, but five points from the relegation zone.

“It was a balanced match and was resolved by a controversial decision. The team worked, had volume of play, goal options and it lacked that strength that Fortaleza had at another time, in other matches,” said the Argentine coach.

Leão returns to the field next Thursday (23), at the Arena Castelão, to face Botafogo, also in a delayed match, for the 29th day of the Brasileirão.
